Imagine a drive through peaceful farmland, down into green valleys, and up to cliff sides with views that are simply breathtaking. Bike along a Rails-to-Trails route or kayak down the Susquehanna River. Stop by the famous Cabela's outdoors store. Take a swing at one of our golf courses, visit the impressive Hawk Mountain Sanctuary or explore premiere horticultural displays at Longwood Gardens. The great outdoors here is simply not to be missed.
DAY ONE - GETTYSBURG
Spending a day outdoors in Adams County can mean a day full of adventure! If you wish to take in some traditional activities in an unusual way, Gettysburg has two suggestions. Take in an alternative Battlefield tour with the National Riding Stables on horseback! This two-hour tour provides the three-day battle history from the trails of the Gettysburg National Military Park. If you prefer, you can also Bike the Battlefield. A two-hour tour covers 7 miles of the historic Gettysburg Battlefield, including Devils Den, Little Round Top, and Pickett's Charge.
Adams County also offers great fishing for those fishermen looking for a new place to explore. If hiking is your thing, explore the trails, which wind through the Gettysburg National Military Park.
Or maybe you are a golf enthusiast. If this is your forte, take in a round of golf at one of our many courses. Carroll Valley Resort offers two 18-hole courses; Golf Digest rated one 4½ stars. The Links at Gettysburg rated a four-star "Place to Play" by Golf Digest and is among Washington Golf Monthly's Top 100 Mid-Atlantic courses. You may also wish to check out Penn National Golf Club & Inn just a short drive from Gettysburg. Penn National offers two 4½ star courses, Founders Course and Iron Forge. The National Golf Course Owners Association named Penn National "Pennsylvania's Course of the Year" 2003.
During the winter season, keep Adams County on your itinerary and visit Liberty Mountain Resort for an adventurous weekend of skiing, snowboarding and tubing. A short drive from Gettysburg, Liberty offers 18 trails, a terrain park and half pipe. Liberty was recently honored by the National Ski Areas Association for the "Best Program USA" to introduce new skiers or snowboarders to the sport. Even if you are a novice, taking a run at Liberty Mountain Resort will make it a fun and enjoyable experience. The Gettysburg National Military Park is open year round, as are many attractions, so make a vacation of it and enjoy Gettysburg and Adams County 12-months a year.
DAY TWO - YORK
Hike, Bike, Ski, ADVENTURE in York County! With more than 4,000 acres of parks there is lots of space to get out and enjoy! Start your day with a bike ride on the Heritage Rail Trail, with more than 21 miles winding through the scenic York Countryside, the Rail Trail is the nation's longest non-motorized trail with rails You might also choose a scenic guided trail ride at Plantation Estate Stables, where they have especially gentle horses for first-time riders.
If you're up for water sports, you will certainly enjoy a visit to Shank's Mare, located on the Susquehanna River, where you can rent a kayak for a leisurely ride down the river.
For a truly one of a kind experience, be sure to visit Maize Quest - America's Maze theme park. Use teamwork as you uncover clues, solve puzzles, and escape for an incredible maze of masterfully created corn pathways spanning 10-acres.

DAY THREE - HARRISBURG/HERSHEY
The legacy of Milton Hershey lives on at Hershey Gardens, a 23-acre botanical treasure on the rolling hillside not far from THE HOTEL HERSHEY.
Hershey Gardens opened as a 3.5 acre rose garden in 1937 and expanded to its current 23 acres by 1942. DAY FOUR - LANCASTER

Rent a kayak and paddle the Susquehanna River or join a river tour with an outfitter such as Shank's Mare near Wrightsville.
Lancaster County has more miles of road than any other Pennsylvania county. The farmlands and covered bridges that span and enhance the Amish countryside can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace by bicycle or floating effortlessly in the air on Balloon Rides Daily by the United States Hot Air Balloon Team.
Tucquan Glen Nature Preserve is one of the most pristine stream sites in Lancaster County with a spectacular forest canopy reaching a height of over 80 feet.
Laugh the evening away as you and your family try to find your way through the Amazing Maize Maze at Cherry Crest-Farm. Many wholesome activities await you with this leader in "agritainment!" Or take a ride on America's oldest short-line railroad, the Strasburg Railroad. Time your visit to coincide with the two summertime visits by Thomas the Tank Engine in June and in September. Take a 22 minute ride on this life-sized storybook engine.
DAY FIVE - READING
Naturalists will enjoy taking a short drive t the northern edge of Berks country to the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Each year, thousands of hawks, eagles and falcons fly past its ridgetops - often at eye level!
