Although the weather was not cooperating and treacherous at times, the rain, thunder and lightning weren’t enough to dampen the spirits of 273 graduating seniors and their families last night. Central Mountain High School held it’s 16th Annual Commencement ceremony at Don Malinak Stadium in Mill Hall, and although it started more than an hour later than anticipated, everyone remained in good spirits as the graduates marched onto the field.
Class President Mark Myers welcomed those in attendance and was followed by musical selections performed by Lloyd Shope and Courtney Poorman. Class valedictorian Chadd Miller then gave his farewell address. After two more musical selections by Abigail Salmon , Rachel Wasilko, Paige Rockwell and Laura Tarantella, Salutatorian Brandyn Moore took the podium for his farewell address. Amanda Hibbler offered a musical selection before Superintendent Kelly Hastings spoke to the students. The chorus then performed the CMHS Graduation Anthem. After this the roll call was taken and students were finally awarded with the diplomas that they have been working so hard for since kindergarten.
The ceremony concluded around 10 p.m. as the students exited the field to the joy of their waiting family and friends. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house, whether it was from the emotions of the night…or from the rain!
