Antique and Folk Art

Find that perfect treasure in Pennsylvania, where hundreds of antique malls, family-owned antique shops, and tiny roadside flea markets await. Discover the intricate artistry of quilting in Kutztown; spend a day tackling the antiques in Adamstown, or browse through the quaint village shops in New Oxford to learn from fellow artists and antique seekers. If you can't find that special family heirloom here, you aren't going to find it anywhere!

DAY ONE - GETTYSBURG
Adams County offers a great deal more than Historic Gettysburg and the National Military Park. Quaint towns and villages filled with antique shops and flea markets pepper the countryside offering visitors a look into the history of early America and the simplistic life still experienced by many locals.

You may wish to start your Adams County adventure in Abbottstown. Located along the historic Lincoln highway, Abbottstown is located on the route west taken by the Conestogas leaving Lancaster. This colonial town is the oldest town in Adams County. While visiting, take in a meal at the Altland House. A country inn with exquisite cuisine and a historic atmosphere, the Altland House was a favorite of President Eisenhower.

The next small town along Route 30 is New Oxford, an antique connoisseur's playground. Known as the Antique Capital of Central Pennsylvania's, New Oxford is home to over 500 dealers. Brick sidewalks, tree-lined streets and 18th and 19th century Victorian and Colonial homes boast New Oxford's historical heritage. Incorporated as a borough in 1874, this quaint little town was once a popular stopping place for wagons and stages on their way to and from Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

DAY TWO - YORK
Enjoy an antiquing adventure in York County. Start your day at the Markets of Shrewsbury where handmade Amish and specialty items await! Red Lion Antique Center also offers a wide variety of quality antiques including furniture, pottery, jewelry, and much more!

Continue your search for that special collectible, at the Cold Spring Antique Mall for the finest in period antiques, or choose Grey Beards Antiques and Collectibles for arts, crafts, clothing and gift items.

In the afternoon, start your own traditions as you look for fine collectibles in York County. Visit Christmas Tree Hill where you can find beautiful Christmas and specialty items year round. Next, visit Pewtarex for fine home accents and accessories, or choose Wilton Armetale where you will find the largest selection of Wilton Armetale metal products in seconds, closeouts and discounted items at savings of up to 60%!

DAY THREE LANCASTER
Lancaster County is perhaps the best place in the country for antiquing. You'll find dozens of markets, shops and showcase malls and centers with more than a thousand dealers of antiques and folk art. Sundays are especially good for antiquing, but special shows like the Antique Extravaganza at Stoudt's Antiques Mall occur throughout the year making it easier to find that special treasure or family heirloom.

Heirloom quality furniture, reflecting the attention to detail of the PA German craftsmen who settled in Lancaster County, can be found at places such as Morton Fine Furniture in Leola or Classic Furniture in Ephrata.

View the best collections of traditional Amish quilts in the world at the Lancaster Quilt & Textile Museum and the People's Place Quilt Museum. Both feature nationally acclaimed exhibits and extensive collections of quilts.

DAY FOUR READING
What a collector's paradise! Hundreds of antique dealers housed in indoor markets, barns, multi-level co-ops and vast merchandise malls. Search for a rare coin or a room full or furniture or satisfy your inner child with toys from bygone years. At antique markets like Rennigers in Adamstown, the premier year-round antiquing destination, finding the right toy can be child's play.

An American folk art tradition comes to life as you take your own driving tour to spot the area's hex barn art. The art of painting large colorful hex signs on rural barns is a century-old custom unique to the Pennsylvania Dutch Culture of Berks County and the surrounding region.
